Power of AI and “vibe coding”: Base44, built in just 6 months, was bought by Wix for $80 million.
In today’s era, artificial intelligence (AI) and “no-code” technologies have opened a new way for solo entrepreneurs. The latest example of this is Israeli developer Maor Shlomo’s startup Base44, which he started just 6 months ago and has now been acquired by Wix for $80 million (about ₹ 670 crores).
Base44: From a side project to a deal worth crores
31-year-old Shlomo started working on Base44 after completing his military reserve duty in late 2024. It is an AI-based vibe coding platform that enables people without any technical knowledge to create apps or software with just text prompts. Just write a command on the platform, and it creates a complete app with features like a database, storage, analytics, email, and maps.
Rapidly growing user base and profits
Base44 garnered 2.5 lakh users in just 6 months, with nearly half of them in the US. The company reported a profit of $189,000 in May 2025, while the company was completely bootstrapped, without any external investment.
Smart move by Wix.
Wix is itself a no-code website builder, and now it wants to incorporate the power of AI even deeper into its platform. The acquisition of Base44 gives Wix a technology that can simplify and speed up the entire software development process.
“This deal furthers our mission, making online creation easier with AI,” said Wix CEO Avishai Abrahami.
Deal Highlights
- Deal Amount: $80 million cash deal
- Base44 Team: 8 people, who will get a retention bonus of $25 million
- Base44 will remain part of Wix but will operate as an independent product.
A step towards solo unicorn?
Although Base44 did not become a “$1 billion unicorn,” its rapid growth and profitable exit have strengthened the possibility of AI-based solo startups. In the tech world, this deal is being considered a big sign that today, even a single person can do the work of big companies with the help of AI.

What is the message in this era of AI?
The story of Base44 is an example of how AI is no longer just for big organizations. A simple idea, quick implementation, and amplified influence through social media can now take anyone to a global level.
This Wix deal also shows that AI and dynamic coding have a bright future and are set to revolutionize software development in the near future.
Maor Shlomo wrote in a post, “Now that we have the resources, I want to see how fast we can grow.”
Bottom line,
The success of Base44 and the acquisition of Wix show that small and nimble startups will now have a big role to play in the technology world. AI has increased the speed of development several times, and a new “solo startup revolution” has begun.
